Sound and ear do not just respond to the material and proportion of a space, sound and it’s movement are the space.
Bernhard Leitner.
The perception of space and sound as phenomena of continuous transformation forms the basis of this work. Minimal and repetitive sound structures unfold into an extended discourse—a sonic mass defined by spatiality, stability, and continuity.
This recording was made on Wednesday, November 11, 2020, at the Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción in Coyoacán, Mexico City, a historic building dating back to 1525.
Capturing the nature of the space is a key aesthetic focus of this work.
Special thanks to Andrés Anaya Treviño for live recording, and to William Basinski, Philip Jeck, Constanza Bizrraelli, Luca Sigurtà, Myriam Boucher, Thomas Fehlmann, and Chris Carter for sharing their insights on compositional processes.
