Music and Sound Design

Sound and ear do not just respond to the material and proportion of a space, sound and its movement are the space.

Bernhard Leitner.

The perception of space and sound understood as a phenomenon of continuous transformation was the basis for the development of this soundscape. Minimum and repetitive sound structures were exposed developing an extended discourse; a sound mass defined by spatiality, stability, and continuity.

This recording was made on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 – Coyoacán, Mexico City at Iglesia de la Inmaculada Concepción, a building dating back to 1525. Re-amplified and recorded with two Austrian Audio OC818 microphones.

Capturing the nature of the space is an aesthetic concern in this work.

Special thanks to Andres Anaya Treviño for the live recording and to William Basinski, Philip Jeck, Constanza Bizrraelli, Luca Sigurtà, Myriam Boucher, Thomas Fehlmann, and Chris Carter for sharing your words and thoughts about compositional processes and being a positive influence with their beautiful works.
